Aorkuler Customer Story: When Two Huskies Ran Off on a Colorado Hike

For Kim, hiking with her dogs has always been about giving them a little freedom.

She lives in Colorado, where outdoor adventures are part of everyday life. Her husky Lilo had already joined her on plenty of hikes, including snowy runs, and Kim had come to appreciate having a way to keep track of her while still letting her explore.

By the summer of 2026, Kim's family had grown from one husky to two.

The two six-month-old puppies were full of energy.

And on one particular hike, they decided to put that energy to use.

Back ground

An Unexpected Moment at the Trailhead

The day started normally.

Kim and her husband arrived at the trailhead with the two puppies, ready to let them run and explore.

Then Kim realized something important:

The remote deviece/controller had been left at home.

It was still turned on.

So they drove back to the house to get it.

When they checked the screen, it was showing a distance of nearly 20,000 feet. It was clearly not the reading they expected, but they were already heading back to the trail.

When they arrived, the display was still showing the old distance.

Kim restarted the trackers and the remote, expecting the system to reconnect and update.

At that point, everything seemed ready.

So they let the puppies loose.

The two young huskies took off happily, running ahead and chasing after each other along the trail. They were full of energy and clearly having a great time.

Kim expected them to run around for a bit and then come back.

They didn't.

Two Young Huskies Go Exploring

The puppies didn't come back when Kim called.

She tried her whistle.

Nothing.

She called again, but the two dogs had already disappeared from sight.

For a few moments, there was no clear idea of where they had gone.

Kim's husband went one way.

Kim went another.

And the farther they went, the more worried she became.

On a Colorado trail, two young huskies can disappear surprisingly quickly. Trees, rocks, changing elevation and winding trails can make it difficult to see very far ahead.

Then Kim remembered the controller.

She looked down.

The tracker was showing about 3,900 feet.

But the indicator was still red, meaning the connection had not yet been restored. The distance wasn't a live position from that moment—it was the last location the system had received from the dogs.

Still, it gave Kim something to work with.

She was already anxious and in a hurry, so she headed in the direction indicated by the controller, hoping that the dogs were somewhere ahead.

As she moved toward the last known location, the distance gradually began to drop.

3,900 feet.

Then closer.

And closer.

Eventually, it was down to around 600 feet.

Kim was still moving quickly toward the location shown on the controller when something changed.

The indicator turned green.

The connection had come back.

That gave Kim a lot more confidence.

It meant the tracker was communicating with the controller again, and she wasn't simply following the dogs' old location anymore. She could now see an updated position from the trackers.

The display changed again, showing around 1,400 feet.

Kim kept going.

Now she had current tracking information to follow, rather than having to search the trail blindly. As the tracker updated, she could use the direction and distance to work out where the dogs were and adjust her path accordingly.

And eventually, she found them.

Both puppies were safe.

They were happy.

And, after their unexpected little adventure, they were tired.

This was the first time they decided to go on their own little adventure apparently we have a little more whistle training to do but the aorkuler tracker is a blessing! — Kim Purkey

More Freedom, With a Little More Peace of Mind

Kim had been using Aorkuler for some time before this hike. She had previously relied on it while hiking with Lilo and had contacted the Aorkuler team several times over the years whenever she had questions or needed help.

When she eventually decided to keep two puppies, she upgraded to the dual-dog system.

Her reason was simple: she wanted both dogs to have room to explore while still knowing where they were.

I love Aorkuler tracker it has been a godsend with my husky letting me know where she is when we are hiking. — Kim Purkey

This hike was a good reminder of why that matters.

Most days on the trail are exactly what dog owners hope for: fresh air, happy dogs and plenty of room to explore.

But sometimes, dogs have their own plans.

When two young huskies decide to take an unexpected detour, having a way to follow their direction can turn a stressful search into a trail you can actually follow.

For Kim, the adventure ended the best way possible:

Two safe puppies.

Two very tired puppies.

And a story she probably won't forget anytime soon.
